Gladys Knight and Candi Staton

From YouTube
How many of you have heard of Candi Staton? She is not a Motown singer, but she had great hits just like Gladys Knight, and her style of songs and music was like Gladys. I remember Candi from the 70's.  But I am very puzzled because Candi is not played on the radio much on the oldies station. When I mention Candi's name to people, they have to pause a little bit and then they remember her. I found out that one of my neighbors was Candi's fan and had all of her records. I tried to get my hands on them but I couldn't. Then I began to search for her CD in the mall and found all of her greatest hits. Candi also sings great gospel songs. Here is Candi interviewing Gladys.

Candi sung a song that she made in 1978 titled Honest I Do. I hear some Motown in the music.

 It's been said more
Than ten million times or more today
And each time someone said it
It was special in their own little way
Now for the time
You didn't believe me
When you hear me say

Honest I do
You know I do
I do love you

If I could count up the songs
In my life that's used the word
I'd be humming for days
Melodies some you've never heard
But like no other time
When you hear
And you know it's true

Honest I do
You know I do
I do love you

Tell me 'bout the times
Tell me 'bout the times baby
Someone leaned over
And whisper softly
I love you in your ear

So many times
So many times
I bet you can't count 'em
Love's the strongest force
On this earth
Hey love is perfect

Why
A tongue can accuse
And carry all sorts of bad news
A lie will deceive you
And then again it's low
But there are three little words
That will always remain true

Honest I do
You know I do
I do love you
I love, I love
I love you
I love you

But there are three little words
That will always remain true

Honest I do
You know I do
I do love you

Debarge Story Part 1

From YouTube
It's Friday night. Nothing is on television. I found TV One's Unsung very interesting on YouTube. Are you a Debarge fan? I found a documentary of the Debarge family. I use to often wonder what happened to the Debarge. They were a gifted family and most people that I know loved them. I was friends with a girl that was crazy about the lead singer, EL Debarge, while I was a Michael Jackson fan. I miss the days when we would watch both families perform. I remember my first time seeing the Debarge. I was standing in front of a television for sale in a department store named Montgomery Ward. That is how I saw them. My mother asked, "Who are they?" An old fan of the Debarge just happened to be standing with us that we did not know. She told us the story.

Enjoy Part 1 of the Debarge story:

Michael Jackson Saved James Debarge

From YouTube
There are a lot of things happening in the lives of our favorite celebrities and entertainers. It is because they are people too. Things are happening in their lives that we don't even know about. We only see what is put before us on the stage when they are performing. Some people fail to realize that some celebrities are just as  troubled as everyday people. Sometimes it seems that they have more troubles than everyday people. It doesn't seem like that should be, but it is happening.

James Debarge had some troubles. According to this YouTube Video, he wanted to give up, but Michael Jackson talked him out of it. Today I learned something about James Debarge I didn't know. I also learned something new about Michael Jackson. He seemed to have really cared about people, but we know him as someone that kept to himself. Maybe some of us didn't really know Michael at all. We only know Michael the singer and dancer. Many of us did not know him as a person.
